I was invited by a friend and teacher from Bento Rodrigues School to work with the 10th, 11th, and 12th grade Art students on the theme of marine litter. Since we had four mornings together, my idea was to share as much knowledge, techniques, and solutions as possible that I use in my own work.
We started with a few playful exercises, then moved on to individual pieces, and finally launched a challenge: to create a large collective piece. I thought I would only guide them at the beginning and that, after I left, they would finish the work on their own.
I underestimated them!
They didn’t want breaks, they worked as a team, they knew how to accept opinions and ask for help. We were able to talk, share, and truly listen to one another. They had the humility to go back and start again when needed, and the determination to carry the project through to the end.
Congratulations to all of them!
